Elliot Lake Seniors' Needs Assessment Study
A. Salmoni*, R.W. Pong, and J. Lewko*
Elliot Lake, a former uranium mining community in northern Ontario, experienced a rapid increase in the number of older persons as a result of the transformation of its economic base (collapse of mining) and its Retirement Living Program. This study examined the characteristics of the older population and assessed the future health care and human services needs in this emerging retirement community. Many papers and presentations based on this study have been published or presented at conferences.
