I am the CRaNHR Director and appointed to the School of Rural and Northern Health. I am an applied medical anthropologist whose research concerns Aboriginal health and health care, both on and off reserve in Northeastern Ontario. I have experience in program design, community based training and evaluation. With Kristen Jacklin, Associate Professor, Human Sciences, at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) I have recently pursued multi-sited research concerning the cultural construction of Alzheimer's and Related Dementias and caregiving in Aboriginal communities in Ontario. Other recent projects, conducted in partnership with the Asthma Society of Canada included the development of The Respiratory Health Awareness Community Outreach and Engagement Model in First Nations, Inuit and Métis Communities. This project developed a pilot intervention concerning lung health, asthma and environmental conditions and evaluated health promotion and awareness interventions in 6 communities across the country including on-line access to culturally specific health promotion and training materials. As Director I am also engaged, along with colleagues at Laurentian, NOSM and Nipissing University in the MOHLTC Health Systems Research Fund Program on "Improving Health Equity for Northern Ontarians; Applied Health Research with Vulnerable Populations." As Director of CRaNHR I am also participate in a number of activities and networks that aim to build health research capacity in North East Ontario.
